Special Symposium: Research Frontiers in Animal Behavior and Parasitism

On May 14 & 15, 2020 the Odum School of Ecology & Center for the Ecology of Infectious Diseases will host a symposium dedicated to research at the interface of animal behavior and infectious disease ecology. Events will include a keynote address, a series of lectures by leading scientists from around the world, a poster session and reception where non-speakers can present their work, breakout sessions, and catered lunches.

Our first day features lectures from leading researchers around the world, along with short talks selected from submitted abstracts, TBA.  Questions from the 1st day will help theme breakout discussions to be led the 2nd day.

About the Symposium

On February 24, 2018, the Center for the Ecology of Infectious Diseases will host a day-long symposium dedicated to the population biology of vector-borne diseases. Events will include a series of lectures by leading scientists from around the world, a poster session where non-speakers can present their work, and a catered reception.

Travel & Accommodation

 

Location
The symposium will be held in the Odum School of Ecology on the campus of the University of Georgia, Athens, GA, USA.

Travel
The closest major airport to Athens is Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, GA.  The airport offers a large number of non-stop flights to and from communities around the US and the world and is located approximately 80 miles from the UGA campus.

Shuttle transportation from Hartsfield-Jackson to UGA is available through Groome Transportation (http://athens.groometransportation.com/).  There are 23 daily round-trips, costing $82 round-trip.  Reservations can be made at the above website, or by calling 706-612-1155.

There are also many rental car agencies located at the airport. The drive from Atlanta to Athens is approximately 1.5 hours.

Parking will be available in the South Campus Parking Deck and the Performing Arts Center Parking Deck, five and ten minute walks to the Ecology Building, respectively.   Fees are paid directly to the attendant, though parking in the South Campus Parking Deck is free to guests of the UGA Center for Continuing Education & Hotel.

Hotels
The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel is located on the UGA campus, a short walk from the Ecology building.

Other hotels within walking distance include the Holiday Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, The Graduate, Holiday Inn Express, and Hotel Indigo.
